Dull green cloth with Georgians (faded) on spine. Original spine was somewhat damaged, and book has been respined with much of the original laid down. Covers have been cleaned and binding secured. It looks like the original tissue guard has been replaced with a more recent one. There is a gift inscription on the front pastedown. Overall this copy is square and securely bound. A solid, repaired copy of this important Georgia book. Gilmer is still an entertaining read. He is one of the first to write about the early settlers north of Savannah and Augusta. Gilmer was not happy with this edition and hand corrected some of the copies that he gave to friends. This is not one of his edited copies but, nonetheless, a very attractive first edition.
