The novel centres on the Ramsay family and their visits to the Isle of Skye in Scotland between 1910 and 1920. Written by Woolf who is considered one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. Later editions of the book were censored due to homosexual content and the mentioning of suicide and mental health issues.
In 2005, the novel was chosen by TIME magazine as one of the one hundred best English-language novels since 1923.
