Vienna: Phaidon Verlag, 1925.

A very rare Hermann Hesse publication, first edition in German. Limited to only 100 numbered copies, with this being No. 86. Written in Gaienhofen in 1910, this sanitarium study was published in an exceptionally small edition by Phaidon.

The book, an 18-page octavo, is in near fine condition, with a neat repair to a small closed tear on the front free endpaper. It is housed in a gilt-stamped brown clamshell case for preservation.

Hermann Hesse (1877–1962), Nobel Prize laureate for Literature in 1946, is renowned for his exploration of the spiritual and psychological struggles of the individual. This rare work reflects Hesse’s thematic focus on the search for enlightenment and the duality of spirit and nature. A true collector’s gem.
