Autograph Letter signed by the famed British Illustrator Arthur Rackham (1867-1939) one of the 20th Centuries finest illustrators and the leading figure during the Golden Age of British book illustration from 1890-1920. His most famous works include Peter Pan in Kensington Garden, Rip Van Winkle, Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm, a 1907 edition of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Cinderella and more than sixty others. Following WWII Rackham purchased Studio #6 in the famed artist community of Primrose Hill to give him a London base. It was from here that he wrote this letter to a friend.
ALS, one page, 7″x9” dated August 8, 1920. Handwritten letter, in part: “Dear Brother Wingman – The past week I have spent so complicatedly divided between the above address…and Houghton, Arundel — where I am writing this — that your letter followed me from one to the other…So, if (Mon. or) Tues. or Wed. evening could by any lucky and ingenious chance be put to the pleasant use that you so kindly suggest, I should be delighted.” In generally near fine condition with a single vertical and horizontal crease and with some toning to the paper with a bit of foxing and light creasing to the lower corners.  A signature in pencil on the verso appears to be in Rackhams’s hand, but unknown.
