English translation:
“My dear friend I have received your enclosed letter from [Hannigou] and I’m forwarding it to you that it might be a use. I have written asking the Notary to replace one of the beds of the villa behind with an iron one . . . and to get rid of the sofa in the workshop which like the bed has bedbugs. See to it that he responds. I would have liked to have gone to see you to tell you all this, but I haven’t had time today and I believe the situation is pressing.
In Friendship and all the best

Matisse was a French artist, known for his use of colour & his fluid, brilliant & original draughtsmanship. As a printmaker, & sculptor, but principally as a painter, Matisse is one of the best-known artists of the 20th century.
Although he was initially labeled as a Fauve (wild beast), by the 1920s, he was increasingly hailed as an upholder of the classical tradition in French painting. His mastery of the expressive language of colour and drawing, displayed in a body of work spanning over a half-century, won him recognition as a leading figure in modern art.
