It was adapted into the hugely popular, 12-hour television miniseries, ROOTS, in 1977 [The first ever TV miniseries], and a 14-hour sequel, Roots: The Next Generations, in 1979.
Haley earned a Pulitzer Prize special award in 1977 for Roots & the television miniseries garnered numerous awards, including nine Emmys & a Peabody. Roots is Haley’s second book following his collaboration on The Autobiography of Malcolm X.
