Junkie by William Lee (pen name of William S. Burroughs). New York: Ace Books, Inc., 1953. First Edition. Ace Double Books D-15.
A paperback original published in Ace’s distinctive tête-bêche “Double Books” binding with Maurice Helbrant’s Narcotic Agent on the reverse side. Junkie, Burrough’s first novel, was published through the efforts of his friend Allen Ginsberg. Ginsberg sent the manuscript to Carl Solomon, nephew of Ace’s owner, A. A. Wyn. Wyn published the manuscript with significant changes, including the addition of the provocative subtitle, “Confessions of an Unredeemed Drug Addict.” A restored version of the novel was published in 1977 as Junky.
149 pp. Original pictorial wraps in near fine condition, with only light edge wear and a faint reading crease.
