Fairy Books, Set of 12. 1914-1925. An incredibly rare complete set. All illustrated in black & white by HJ Ford. Only one other set currently in the market (at $12K!) since I sold my other one.
“The Blue Fairy Book” [Longmans, Green and Co, 1914. Fifteenth impression. Top edge gilt and embossed cover. Hinges intact and binding solid. Boards slightly bowed. Gilt on spine incredibly bright. Light rubbing to top of spine. Very Good.
“The Red Fairy Book” [Longmans, Green and Co, 1914. Twelfth impression. Top edge gilt and embossed cover. Hinges intact and binding solid. Spine slightly cocked and titling dulled, as pictured. Overall, Very Good.
“The Green Fairy Book” [Longmans, Green and Co, 1914]. Tenth impression. Top edge gilt and embossed cover. Spine slightly cocked. Titling and pictorial spine design still very bright. Overall, Very Good+.
“The Yellow Fairy Book” [Longmans, Green and Co, 1917]. New Impression. Hinges uncracked but binding has some “give” overall. Embossed cover has darkened top and left edge, each about 1/2 inch. Spine cloth and titling slightly darkened but legible. Spine slightly cocked. Overall, Good+.
“The Pink Fairy Book” [Longmans, Green and Co, 1916]. New impression. Embossed cover; gilt spine titling and decoration have slightly faded, as pictured. Hinges solid, binding tight. Some light shelfwear to head/tail of spine. Overall, Very Good+.
“The Grey Fairy Book” [Longmans, Green and Co, 1913]. New impression. Embossed cover; gilt spine titling and decoration have slightly faded, as pictured. Hinges solid, binding tight. Some light shelfwear to head/tail of spine. Overall, Very Good+.
“The Violet Fairy Book” [Longmans, Green and Co, 1925]. Twelfth impression. Color frontispiece + 7 color illustrations (in addition to the numerous black & white ones throughout). Violet-colored pictorial front cover and spine designs. Hinges uncracked and binding solid. Some light red staining to foreedge that does not intrude upon textblock. Overall, Very Good.
“The Crimson Fairy Book” [Longmans, Green and Co, 1914]. New impression. Embossed cover; gilt spine titling and decoration have slightly faded, as pictured. Hinges solid, binding tight. A light ring of dampstain on back board, perhaps from a drink etc.. Overall, Very Good+.
“The Brown Fairy Book” [Longmans, Green and Co, 1914]. New impression. Embossed cover. Gilt spine titling and decoration remain moderately bright. Front hinge just barely beginning to pull away but binding on balance is strong. Overall, Very Good.
“The Orange Fairy Book” [Longmans, Green and Co, 1922]. New impression. Color frontispiece + 7 color illustrations (in addition to the numerous black & white ones throughout). Most of FFEP lacking. The outline of a bird has been traced from the frontispiece onto the tissue but no other writing observed within textblock. Slightly cocked. Hinges uncracked. Spine gilt moderately bright but there are a few white stains, as pictured. Overall, Good+.
“The Olive Fairy Book” [Longmans, Green and Co, 1917]. New impression. Color frontispiece + 7 color illustrations (in addition to the numerous black & white ones throughout). Embossed cover; gilt spine titling and decoration have slightly faded, as pictured. Hinges solid, binding tight. Overall, Very Good.
“The Lilac Fairy Book” [Longmans, Green and Co, 1918]. Third impression. Lilac cloth with gilt front cover and spine decorations. With 6 colored plates and numerous illustrations in black & white. Front hinge beginning to crack. Spine dull, several small indentations on the front cover. Fraying at the head and tail of the spine. Overall, Good.
